Overview of First Aid Course Content

Our comprehensive first aid courses in Orange equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed for recognizing and effectively responding to various emergencies. This course meets the standards set by the Australian Resuscitation Council in addition to other leading national clinical bodies.  As a result, this course ensures your training reflects the current best practice and aligns with all legal requirements.

 

Core First Aid Skills and Techniques

In this course, you will actively master a range of essential skills, including assessing casualties and ensuring safety. You will also learn to access emergency services efficiently. The training focuses on practical, hands-on experience, empowering you to confidently use first aid techniques such as performing CPR and operating a defibrillator.

Key components of the course involve administering crucial medications for conditions like anaphylaxis and asthma. You will also learn life-saving procedures to assist someone who is choking. Furthermore, the course teaches you to apply appropriate immobilization methods for envenomation and how to effectively handle fractures, dislocations, sprains, and strains. In addition, you will learn to manage non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, rounding out a comprehensive skill set for first aid proficiency.

 

Anatomy, Physiology, and Incident Management

Our training actively engages you in understanding the basics of anatomy and physiology through online pre-course learning. This includes a focused exploration of the different CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants. We emphasize the chain of survival concept, boosting your ability to respond effectively in urgent situations. Additionally, you’ll develop skills in both written and verbal reporting of incidents. This aspect of the course encourages you to review and reflect on these incidents, continuously enhancing your skills and reducing your response times.

 

Addressing Psychological Impacts

Crucially, the course equips you to recognize the psychological impacts following emergencies and guides you in seeking help when necessary. By completing this course, you will be thoroughly prepared to provide immediate and effective first aid in various emergency situations, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of those in need.

 

Units Delivered

  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support

This course is delivered and assessed on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909 by Orange First Aid Training

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered at your workplace or club, or at one of our public courses at Waratah Sports Club

Course Duration

Online with face-to-face assessment – Face to Face contact time of at least 1 Hour

Entry Requirements

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and rescue breathing techniques on manikins.

Online study:  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

Assessment Requirements

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Certificate Renewal Requirements

This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 36 months

Assessment Activities

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)
  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Manage a casualty with asthma
  • Manage a choking casualty
  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
  • Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)

Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions.
